Dummy vs Thumb Empty Re: Dummy vs Thumb

Post by Clair_Doyle Thu May 14, 2009 6:27 pm

My son had a dummy, and my daughter has one for now.

I gave them dummies as personally, I didn't want them sucking their thumb/fingers... my sister in law still sucks her thumb at 30... it is a case of each to their own, but I think taking away a dummy is much easier than persuading them to stop sucking a thumb...

Just my opinion!

I prefer dummy, as like pp said, its easier to wean them off of. Evie has a dummy at the moment, but is starting to find her thumb, and sometimes spits the dummy out in favour of her thumb, lol. x

both me a dp were thumb suckers! i think thats why we prefer it. Bethany is almost 4 and still sucks her thumb but she only does it when she is really tired or she has hurt herself and needs comforting. so rarely sucks it during the day.

i think it maybe instinct to go for the thumb as ive heard of a lot of babies choosing it over a dummy.

Dummy vs Thumb Empty Re: Dummy vs Thumb

my Eva is a fist chomper.... she never does seem to be able to stick just the thumb in her mouth, she does use a dummy when she is tired, and tends to spit it out once she is settled and just about to go to sleep. my oldest had a dummy and by the age of 2 it was just for bed times only and she knew this, and by time she was 3 it had been totally phased out and she never missed it once. :)so will probably look to do the same for Eva
